Brad Stevens Shows He's Actually Alive By Bringing Enes Kanter Back To Boston

And just like that Brad is on the board! After days and days of free agency watching other teams made additions, us Celtics fans were on the outside looking in. Considering there are needs for their roster, that was a little annoying. It made sense given what we know their approach to this offseason has been and not committing money past this season, so the details around this deal will be important. Considering their current frontcourt depth is Rob/Horford/Grant/Bruno, you could say it was a position of need. If this is for the minimum, that's decent 3rd big depth.

We know what Kanter is, and honestly his Celtics tenure was pretty much what you should have expected. Some decent scoring on the block, a terrific offensive rebounder but defense that will make you want to gauge your eyes out. Getting Kanter in space or in P&R is about as easy as it gets for an offensive player, but everyone has flaws. He certainly was no worse than what we just lived through with Tristan Thompson on that end, only his offense is slightly better. Having a good offensive rebounder is important for this roster considering their shooting is still a bit of a question mark. Not to mention Kanter seemed to love it in Boston, was never an issue in the locker room and is someone who knew his role. They made moves in other areas to improve their defense so getting someone to potentially help the 2nd unit offense for essentially nothing isn't half bad.

This also tells us they felt the team needed Rob insurance. Given his health history, that's not exactly a surprise. Like I said, the important thing is the details surrounding the deal. This is the latest

Boom! Thank god those early tweets about using some of the MLE money ended up being hot air. Now that we know it's a minimum deal and doesn't fuck up any plans for the future, there's little downside.

So look, does Enes Kanter suddenly change the ceiling of this team? Of course not, don't be silly. But he's a depth piece in a position of need with a skillset that will help in certain areas. Again, we know what he is and what he'll bring. They couldn't enter the season with that big rotation, so at least Brad found a proven commodity. Could certainly be worse
