Giannis Talking About Ego And Humility Is One Of The Best Quotes You'll Ever Hear
What a quote. Hearing Giannis during these type of press conferences is always interesting because you never really get boiler plate answers. He truly tells you how he feels which is pretty rare for an athlete of his stature. Normally they want to be careful and give very guarded answers. Not Giannis though. For 26 years old his perspective on the game and life is pretty remarkable. A huge part of that obviously is his upbringing. His humility is so rare given how dominant and successful he's been at such a young age and I think that's what makes him so awesome to root for. How can you hate on someone like this? All Giannis does is work hard, stay humble, and be loyal. He seems like a guy that "gets it". That sounds a little corny I get it but I also don't know how else to say it. You know it when you see it and with Giannis that's the best way I can describe it.
This play was insane for those who don't remember it
Everything about Giannis is authentic, and I think that's what I love most about him. This isn't a schtick. He's not doing it to go viral on Twitter or anything like that. This is simply who he is and always has been.
Which brings us to tonight's all important Game 5. I'm pretty sure throughout history whoever wins this Game 5 goes on to win the series over 70% of the time. It's a massive game for both sides no matter how you slice it. Throughout this series as a casual viewer with no rooting interest I've gone back and forth a million times with who I want to win. I started these Finals really wanting to see Chris Paul get his first ring. But at the same time I want to see Giannis reach the top of the mountain given where his journey started and how humble he is all while dominating these Finals in a way we basically haven't seen since Prime Shaq. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with either outcome which is why these Finals are so appealing.
I just think it's important that we stop and recognize how rare Giannis is. Not just from a talent perspective, but everything else that comes with it. Outside of maybe Steph, what other superduper star in the NBA are you hearing talk like this and have this type of mindset? I'm sure you can count them on one hand.
