I'm Learning How To Play The Guitar And Absolutely HATE The Barred F Chord

This is going to be a sort of long blog, but a necessary one. To start, I'm learning how to play guitar right now. So far I can play standard chords, sans the godforsaken barred F chord. That thing is a MOTHERFUCKER. We'll get to that later though. Let's start with getting introducing some new music to the masses.

Today's a rainy ass, lousy day in Chicago so we're doing nothing but sitting in side and listening to music. Right? RIGHT??? Right. Idk what the fuck else we'd be doing as a lot of people are still working from home for the most part. If one thing good came from the pandemic, it's that we had so much excess time on our hands that we could stumble upon new music.

In steps the Bad Suns. Bad Suns are far from some obscure band. Kinda one of those "iykyk" bands. But they're actually really fucking popular. Not popular in like a... Foo Fighters, Katy Perry or other commercially popular band popular. They just have a really sizable following and people really like them, as they should. They played at goddamn Coachella back in 2015 just a few years after the band was started. That's obviously a big deal. Simply put, they're fucking awesome.

So, if you haven't listened to them before, you should give them a shot. All ya gotta do is hit play on the track list below:

Doesn't matter what music you're into. You'll dig Bad Suns. Myself, Colin Budny of Foxtrot and the Get Down and Kenny Carkeet, a founding member of Awolnation had the chance to interview their lead singer Christo Bowman (no relation to Stan... I don't think) on our music podcast this week. It was an awesome convo about their rise to success, the current state of the music industry, their musical inspirations and so on and so forth. Christo was an awesome dude and we were lucky to get him on the show.

The podcast is called "On The Guest List".  It's hosted by me, a music fan not in the music industry (obviously), Colin Budny, lead singer/guitarist for Foxtrot and the Get Down (grinding out and trying to reach the pinnacle of the music industry) and Kenny Carkeet (founding member of Awolnation and Diamond (huge deal) artist who wrote "Sail" that is one of the most played songs in the last 10-15 years). We've had awesome guests so far: Chris Shifflet of the Foo Fighters, Cory Wong of Vulfpeck, Marc Roberge of OAR, Isaiah Sharkey, Chill Moody, JR Robinson, Duddy B of the Dirty Heads, Rebelution, Fitz from Fitz and the Tantrums, The Revivalists, and a lot more. We also have Miles Doughty of Slightly Stoopid and hopefully Tyler Joseph of Twenty One Pilots on deck. We're proud of what we've built so far and plan to make it huge.

I always thought I knew music pretty well. I'd say I have a GED in music. Colin and Kenny have a Doctorate from Harvard. I learn a FUCK ton about music, both on the industry side and even how to play it. Those guys are teaching me how to become a rock star right now:

Here's me playing a guitar Marc Roberge sent me very, very poorly:

Not good! That's fine though, I have the heart of a champion and the mental stamina of a goddamn Navy SEAL. In a few months, I fully expect to be able to transition from the G chord to the barred F. I hope. Nevertheless, we have a few

Check it out! Were going to get Dante involved a lot more, and Robbie Fox has joined the show a bunch. Both of those two also know a shit ton about music.
