There’s Rumor The Knicks Have Made An “Aggressive” Trade Offer For Collin Sexton

The NBA has by far the best offseason, anyone that hasn’t been living under a rock the last two decades knows that. The live reality tv show style soap opera that is the NBA offseason got taken to new levels after LeBron made a total jackass of himself doing a TV special to announce ”the decision” and then crowned himself as winning infinity championships before he even won one. Even though it’s technically not the offseason, LeBron isn’t playing in the finals so it seems like everyone but the hardcore sports/basketball fans have already moved on to the offseason anyways. I for one am enjoying some fresh meat in the mix when it comes to playing in the NBA Finals but overall I believe the point still stands.

As far as this trade goes lord only knows the if this alleged trade offer has any sort of validity to it but for the sake of this blog I’m gonna treat it like it does. As a Knicks fan I’m more than OK with this trade. To be honest I don‘t even think it‘s that “aggressive” of an offer. I‘ve seen mixed reviews on it mostly due to giving up Obi Toppin and I don’t really get it. Don‘t get it twisted I really like Obi. I like his game and I like that he‘s a NY kid but I’m shocked at how attached to him people seem so early. I’m over the Knox experiment at this point. He got everyone excited after that initial summer league after he got drafted but Kevin Knox just isn’t a guy to be concerned with when it comes to this Knicks roster. Smell ya later buddy. Throwing in one of our first round picks (19 or 21 overall) is the least we could do. to be quite honest I think the Knicks would be fleecing the Cavs with this deal. Obviously we would have to commit to Sexton and pay him after this upcoming season but I think the potential reward far outweighs the risk.

Let me remind you that Collin Sexton (although on a very bad team) averaged 24, 4 and 3 last year. He’s also only 22 years old. He‘s almost a year younger than Obi. In my opinion he has a lot more potential and upside than Obi. That doesn’t mean Obi can’t be a really good player but if you were giving me my pick of the two I’m taking Sexton without hesitation and I’m laughing at anyone that wants to have a genuine debate about it. The Knicks need a point guard of the future and they could do much worse than Collin Sexton. Pairing Sexton with Quickley to form a young backcourt to develop and build around with Randle and Barrett already their actually sounds pretty enticing to me. This obviously isn’t a move that‘s moving the Knicks to title contention right away or anything like that but it’s absolutely a move in the right direction. Who really knows if this trade is legit or not only time will tell, but as a Knicks fan I approve the message.

Also if you’re not completely sold on Sexton remember his time at Alabama when he single handedly kept his team in the game against Minnesota when they were playing 3 on 5. Absolutely incredible. The kid is a DAWG.
