The Reason Chris Mortensen Said He Never Corrected His Story About Deflategate Is He Didn’t Know How To Use Twitter? Wait What?

From Christ Mortensen’s Interview With Dan Lebatard

“What needs to be corrected has been corrected,” Mortensen said Monday. “I didn’t correct it on Twitter, which was a mistake, by the way. Twitter, I’m still trying to figure it out. The bottom line is, as the Wells Report showed, there were not 11 balls that were all two PSI under the 12.5 minimum requirement. “Now let me say this, and I’ve done this before: I can understand after reading the Wells Report, because we had silence for three months, that could somebody generalize two pounds under based on the range of 12.5 to 13.5? Yeah, they could have. Now that’s my job to do a better vetting job as a journalist. But let me ask you this question: If I had simply reported, which I did include in the original report, that 11 footballs were found to be significantly underinflated, what would the reaction have been? The same, I think, which is the descriptive narrative that I actually did change it to and correct it. “What I didn’t do is I didn’t write a formal [thing] on Twitter to say, ‘OK, we’re getting conflicting information. Leave it at significantly underinflated.’ And then Roger Goodell’s appealed decision, if you read it, the 20-page decision in which he upheld the suspension of Brady, you get the idea that they are going with the gauge that said he had five balls in the 10 range and four in the lower 11 range and another couple maybe in the middle 11 range. And oh, by the way, in my original reporting, [I] never implicated Tom Brady. Never implicated the Patriots. I did ask the question if Walt Anderson, the referee, followed the protocol, and the league assured me he had. But the first person who really mentioned Tom Brady in this whole matter happened to be Bill Belichick in that Thursday press conference — ‘If you want to ask about the footballs, ask Tom.’ “

I’ll tell you what. As much as Chris Mortensen keeps saying he’s not part of this Deflategate story the way he’s acting and the things he’s saying I’m starting to think he deflated the god damn footballs himself. I mean holy shit does he keep putting his foot in his mouth and acting like he’s got something to hide.

First he cancelled on Dennis and Callahan because he didn’t like the way “they were drumming up interest” in his appearance. OH MY GOD NOT THAT! Not a radio show teasing a guest!
Then he decides to go on the friendly airways of ESPN Radio and the Dan Lebatard show instead. Somehow he makes an even more preposterous statement. He claims the reason he didn’t correct his original story is because “he’s still trying to figure out twitter”. The guy who has 2 million followers, 20,000 tweets and been on twitter since 2010 is still figuring out how it works. Holy shit Mort! Come up with something better than that! I mean are you listening to what you’re saying?

Another weird point he kept making was that if he used the words “11 out of 12 balls were significantly” deflated instead of 2 lbs below that would have somehow made it better. It was almost like he hadn’t heard the news none of the balls were significantly deflated if deflated at all. Like the only channels on his TV is the Mike Kensil network. WAKE UP MORT! Have you read the Wells Report yet dude? Have you read any independent scientific reports? What planet are you on?

Listen I get it. Mort is protecting Mike Kensil and the NFL. He knows if he gives them up he’s pretty much done in this business. I could sort of live with that if he came out and said as much. If he said “even though I was treated like a used condom to further the NFL’s Nazi agenda I can’t give up my sources or I’ll be blacklisted. It sucks but it is what it is.” That at least I could accept. But these ridiculous lies about not knowing how to use twitter and all his other garbage is crazytown.

Bottomline Mort is Pats fans don’t think you were out to get us. You were a Patzy. We get it. But your story which was 100% false framed the discussion for Deflategate. Not correcting it was indefensible. Running and hiding like a like a girl was cowardly. Now trying to act like you’re being treated unfairly or you don’t understand the outrage is insane. You know you fucked up. You know you were used. We want your source because that person intentionally lied to make the Pats look bad. This was never about you, but the more you lie to our faces and insult our intelligence the more it becomes about you
