All These Weird Deals, Big Time Money And People Losing Their Shit Shows NIL Is Working Exactly As It Should On Day One

Alright we're just about 12 hours into this new world and let me tell you something. It's working EXACTLY as it should. Everyone and anyone is taking advantage of the chance to make money as a college athlete. Not only that but we're seeing it done in unique ways. A paid tweet for a podcast? Probably made like $100, but you know what? That's $100 that the NCAA would have tried to jail him for.  Instead he can make a tweet, have it start to make its rounds on Twitter and get some free drinks and dinner out of it. That's what NIL is all about. Making the money that has been clearly out there and now it's going to the players. Hell, we haven't even seen the biggest moneymaker yet. 

Olivia Dunne is 18-years old at LSU and is about to be a millionaire. That's not an exaggeration, that's what the prediction is for her. Remember all those people freaking out about Olympic sports being hurt? Yeah, they are making money. But what really lets me know it's working is the freakout from people who just for whatever reason don't want to see college athletes get paid. It starts with SI:

What the fuck is that cover? Why make the players out to be greedy when all they asked for was the right to make money on their own name, image and likeness. We all know Mark Emmert, the NCAA and the schools have been the most greedy, right? Fuck outta here SI, there's a reason no one reads you anymore and your holier than thou bullshit. Then there's this one. 

If that's a problem then the whole argument that these players are nothing without the school goes out the window. Not to mention it's just a lie. The schools still get TV money. They still have ticket money, ad deals with that, sponsorships, etc. They'll be fine. There are millions of tweets I've seen about 'taxes.' Uhh, this is a good thing. College should be teaching people how to deal with taxes and all that stuff. Not to mention compliance departments are still involved here to help athletes with taxes and everything that goes along with NIL. There are still rules in place - including BYU being the nerds that they are.

We're also seeing companies start to get creative. Like I said there has been major money involved - you're talking $20,000 deal for King. Then there's this. 

That's a type of deal that coaches get in their contract. $25,000 isn't anything to scoff at too, especially if you're talking star players. They'll likely rack up a few other deals and make close to six figures. Good. Who has a problem with that and why? Are we still really pretending that college football and basketball isn't a minor league right now? Especially when you're talking about high majors. 

The point is this is how NIL is supposed to be. Let companies decide what these players are worth - across all sports. By the way, this has been the best one yet. 

Let the man make some music for money. Wonder if he knows Sister Hazel at all. Great cover song and I don't care what people say about that. This is all going to be ever changing since we haven't lived in this world yet. But as of now, it's going exactly as it should and that's a great thing for everyone. I said it before, but if this is the sort of money that's tossed around to someone like King, it's going to entice fringe players to stay another year in college athletics. That's what we want, right? Yes it is.
