Trey Mancini Being In The Home Run Derby Is The Best Move MLB Has Made In A Long Time

The best comeback story in sports keeps getting better as it was announced that Trey Mancini is going to Colorado to participate in the Home Run Derby on July 12th. This should have been a double dipper week for Trey as an All Star and a participant in the derby but it doesn't look like he'll be selected to the game because Cedric Mullins is going to be the Orioles lone selection. But if he can't be in the game at least he can still be recognized and honored in the derby.

I don't think you'll hear a complain from Trey about not making the All Star Game, a year ago he was hooked up to all types of machines and going through chemotherapy for Stage 3 Colon Cancer, just the fact that he's playing baseball let alone at a high level is enough to celebrate. Part of the events during the All Star Game is the "Stand Up To Cancer" segments they do, again who better to showcase and honor during this time than Trey? Won't be a dry eye in the house when they show him during the tributes.

And lets not get this confused, Trey wasn't put in the home run derby because they felt bad for him or anything, they're putting him in because he's really damn good. 14 homers on the season, same amount as Nick Castellanos, Bo Bichette, and Miguel Sano. He deserves a spot in Colorado. I wrote a few months back that it was a no-brainer to add Trey to the field, it's just awesome MLB finally did something right. So far it's a solid field with Shohei Ohtani, Pete Alonso, and Trey. Going to be some monster bombs hit and I think it's safe to say that Trey will have a decent amount of people rooting for him. Not many people thought he'd be back playing baseball this well after last year, it's great to see how he has bounced back. It's the best story in all of sports right now.
