NC State's CWS Run Was Almost Cancelled After a Covid Issue

Holy shit.

While we were on the air for Picks Central, there were some rumblings that NC State was dealing with some sort of Covid issue. And only minutes before the scheduled first pitch between the Wolfpack and Vanderbilt, the NCAA announced the game was in a delay due to health and safety protocols.

So now we're back with an all-too-familiar feeling we felt last year as it relates to sports. Nobody has any idea what is going to happen. NC State needs just one win in two tries against Vandy to play for a national championship and now it's a very real possibility that won't happen. It's safe to say nobody in Omaha saw this coming.

This is about as unfair as it gets. The Wolfpack has been the hottest team in the country for more than a month. They took down No. 1 Arkansas in Fayetteville to get to the College World Series. They went 2-0 in their first two games in Omaha. And now it might all be taken away just like that. Life really sucks sometimes.

All we can do is hope they're able to figure out some way, somehow to play this baseball game. NC State deserves a shot to get what it came to Omaha for, even if it has to do so shorthanded.

Let them play!

But in the event worst comes to worst, we can't just let Vanderbilt waltz into the championship series and have Rocker and Leiter ready to go. That would be the most fraudulent national title in any sport ever.

If the Wolfpack really can't play, maybe we should bring one of the teams that was eliminated from the CWS back. I think the highest-ranked national seed that has been knocked out would make sense. Whoever that may be.

UPDATE: The game is on, though NC State will be shorthanded. The Wolfpack will get a shot.
