Basketball Guy Move: Chris Beard Lived In A Hotel For 10 Weeks After Taking The Texas Job Because He Was Too Busy Recruiting To Find A House

[CBS] - It's been exactly 10 weeks since Chris Beard agreed to leave Texas Tech for Texas -- to move 380 miles southeast, from one Big 12 school to another, in a development that was probably the biggest coaching hire of the year even though it was completely overshadowed nationally on the day it was announced by Roy Williams' retirement at North Carolina

Ten weeks.

And if you're wondering just how occupied Beard has been with recruiting, connecting and everything else, understand that he finally moved out of a hotel just last Friday night.

You know what? I don't blame Chris Beard at all here. I'm in the process of selling my house/building a new one and let me tell you. The process SUCKS. I'm just a blogger, so I'm sure it's nowhere near as exhausting as being the brand new head coach at Texas. Probably looking at the nicest houses in Austin and having to decide which one to buy that also matches his contract. It's brutal. You gotta 'declutter' which is the biggest buzz word I've ever heard. Pack all your shit in storage, hope someone likes your house, all while trying to do the same. I never want to move again and I haven't even officially moved into my new house yet. Now trying to do half that process while also trying to make sure you have a better product than Shaka Smart did at Texas is a whole different battle.

On the flip side, living in a hotel is kinda sweet. You don't have to clean, everyone knows hotel sex slaps a bit better than sex in your own bed and you can eat whatever you want every night. Don't have the pressure to cook. Plus he's Chris Beard, he's living in a nice ass hotel. It's not some NYC box with an AC that barely works, a bed that's rock hard and a pillow. He's living in the suite that we all walk past to our dump room.

But really what this article did is show that he's the answer Bench Mob asked.

Obviously Few is the answer to who needs to win a title first. But other guys that immediately jumped to mind for me is (in no order): Leonard Hamilton, Dana Altman, Mick Cronin and Chris Beard. Beard might be my pick here because he had Texas Tech in the title game where all they needed was not to help off of De'Andre Hunter in the corner. I still can't believe that team had the defensive breakdown.

I know people like to scream about them not fouling there, but there was too much time. You don't foul up three with over 10 seconds left in the game. Ultimately it was Tech's star Jarrett Culver who just got lost. You give up a layup there. Instead Culver dove in, Jerome to Hunter. Bang. That cost Beard a title. Now he leaves Tech for a rival that's in the same state and conference? You need to win a title at Texas if you're Beard. They are craving one. It's not like they've been close either - just one Final Four, but there's too much talent that comes to that program for it to keep failing.
