I Refuse To Believe The Local Detroit News Has A Reporter With The Thickest British Accent Of All Time

A guy got his chain snatched, big whoop. Happens every day. Professional football field, inner-city Detroit, Steve Francis' current location, anywhere and everywhere. Seen it once seen it a thousand times. That's not the story here.

The story here is how wildly unprepared my ears were to hear this British accent come through my computer speakers. It's not as if Detroit has some distinct accent, pretty standard American English overall so I didn't really have any expectations which is what made this whole experience so jarring. To the point where I thought this was a fake news story. Like yeah someone got their chain snatched but someone else took the feed and dubbed over a fake news anchor voice. Classic internet prank. But nope. This is Tim Pamplin, a British born news reporter who somehow ended up in Detroit. That's not even where the story gets good.

Tim Pamplin goes by "Nightcam." He's a strictly behind the scenes guy. Only uses his camera and voice. From his own website:

It's the question everyone asks - who is this Nightcam?

You've seen his work, but maybe not seen his face. Tim Pamplin, better known as Nightcam, has been an elusive fan favorite since 1999.

Tim is living his childhood dream of becoming a TV cameraman, and has been honored with several broadcasting awards with Local 4 including two Edward R. Murrow awards and three Emmy awards.

Born in Haverhill, Suffolk, an English farming area of East Anglia about 50 miles north of London, Tim moved to Chicago in 1992 where he worked as a still photographer.

Since moving to Detroit in 1994 he has become an important part of the WDIV News team, both as a photojournalist who captures incredible images and as a reporter bringing home the breaking news first on the scene.

A self proclaimed "news junkie," Nightcam is a current affairs nut. Which may explain his passion for capturing the latest events and keeping viewers in the know.

Just one question remains. Why have we never seen his face?

Well, because he's holding the camera, of course!

This is real deal in the field journalism here, folks. No frills, no extra shit, just the facts. You don't need to see Nightcam's face. Big Pamp isn't in it for the glory like the rest of these so-called "reporters" who need their face on camera. Timmy P is going to weave you a web with his dulcet tones and silky smooth delivery and there's nothing you can do about it. When David Attenborough is ready to give up PLANET EARTH the BBC's first and only call better be to Pamplin. I need to hear about how lions are on the hunt for some "easy pickings." Until that point I refuse to get my Detroit area news from anyone but the Pamp Man. If it's doesn't come from Timmy's tongue I'm not hearing it.
