RIP Kevin Clark, Best Known As "Freddy Jones" From 'School of Rock'
Chicago Sun Times- Kevin Clark stuck with his music after appearing nearly 20 years ago as drummer Freddy “Spazzy McGee” Jones in the wildly popular movie “School of Rock.”
He formed bands, wrote songs, taught children. At 32, Clark had just started a new band that performed live for the first time over the past weekend on the North Shore.
“He told his bandmates just yesterday: You know, this is finally the life I want to live. And we’re going to make it. You’re my musical family — my family — and we’re all going to make it,” his mother Allison Clark said.
Clark was riding a bicycle early Wednesday when he was struck and killed at a notoriously dangerous intersection on the Northwest Side. He was hit by a Hyundai Sonata around 1:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of North Western Avenue, Chicago police said.
Paramedics found him on Logan Boulevard and took him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:04 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 20-year-old woman, was issued several citations, police said.
Apologies if I'm the one kickin your day off with this tragic news, but I felt Kevin Clark deserved a bit of recognition here on the blog considering he was a big part of a movie many of us love pretty dearly.
Kevin Clark - a Chicago-based musician who was best known as Freddy “Spazzy McGee” Jones in the 2003 Jack Black movie, 'School of Rock' - was struck and killed by a car yesterday while riding his bike in Chicago. I won't focus on the sad details of the accident here, though - I'd much rather highlight Clark himself for a second.
Kevin Clark was an incredible child actor who seemingly grew up to be a well adjusted, good guy who simply loved music. That's what he pursued after 'School of Rock', too....music and music alone; dude never took another role again!
Here's Kevin tearing it up at the 'School of Rock' reunion a few years back....

Clearly he had some real talent behind the kit! It broke my heart reading he had just played a his first show with his new band this past weekend, but hey - at least he got to play that show.
Sending my deepest condolences to Kevin's friends, family, and all who are feelin this one today.
