The Writer Of The Knicks Song "Go New York Go" Is Rooting For The Hawks This Series Because He Is A Part Owner Of The Team. Wait, What?!?

MOOD:

What. The. Fuuuuuuuuuuck? Here I thought that Bill de Blasio acting like a jackass was going to be the worst thing to come across my timeline today.

Nope! Having the writer of the greatest anthem in Knicks sports history rooting against us in the first round of the playoffs after our most organically fun season in decades is sick and twisted shit, even for the Basketball Gods that have basically been jerking off with Knicks fans tears for as long as I can remember.

The Olds love that song, the Youngs love that song, even people that don't give a shit about the Knicks love that song. "Go New York Go" is one of those things that was created during the glorious times of the 90s that has withstood the test of time and the evil reign of James Dolan.

Now I'm sure there are many people wondering how the hell a guy that made a jingle, albeit the best jingle if not song ever, ended up with Part Owner Of The Atlanta Hawks in his LinkedIn bio. I mean I'm not one of them because I always figured the person that made "Go New York Go" was at most the modern day Mozart or at the very least a super successful career as the John Williams of jingles. But according to Jesse Itzler's Wikipedia, he took quite an interesting route to get there.

- He started a record label called Alphabet City Sports Records that mixed arena songs with highlight play-by-play calls that was later purchased by SFX

- He co-founded Marquis Jets with his partner from Alphabet City Sports Records and Marquis was later acquired by NetJets owned by some little firm called Berkshire Hathaway for what I imagine was a decent fee.

- He founded an incubator group that partnered with ZICO Coconut Water that was acquired by Coca-Cola, which again was likely for a few sheckles.

- He is a public speaker that discusses his success, including how he made "Go New York Go" and how it impacted his career.

- Oh yeah and he's married to Sarah Blakely, the creator of Spanx reportedly worth a billion dollars and the 93rd most powerful woman in the world back in 2014 according to Forbes.

Add all that up along with becoming part of an ownership group led by billionaire Tony Ressler and you get the creator of "Go New York Go" crushing life just as much as I imagined he would be while also crushing my heart as the part owner of a team we have to face in Round 1.

Now I've seen my favorite player escorted out of MSG after giving his blood, sweat, and tears to that court. I've seen fans silenced for asking the owner to sell the team. I've seen so many embarrassing stories, games, and memes that I honestly forgot where the anger stopped and the pain began.  But Jesse Itzler rooting against the Knicks in a playoff series against a random ass team like the Hawks, rightfully so may I add, and essentially rendering "Go New York Go" as the theme of the opposing team hurts just as much as all of that mumbo jumbo, if not more so. Yes part of that is because I want my family to be best friends with his family. But the point remains.

You know what though? We aren't going to let this get us down. Knicks in 6 because it rhymes and because Thibs is going to be fired up. And if you bought a Go New York Go shirt, burn it and then buy a new one once this series is over.
