Spencer Turnbull Tosses Baseball's 5th No-Hitter Of The Year As Rob Manfred's Evil Plan To Eliminate Hitting Continues
I feel like no-hitters these days have become as common as a complete game. Odds are if you're a starting pitcher still on the mound in the 9th inning you probably haven't surrendered a knock. Well, on Tuesday night Detroit's Spencer Turnbull tossed baseball's fifth no-no of the season. FIFTH! It's May 19th and Rob Manfred's unbelievably stupid idea to deaden the baseball has killed hitting throughout the league. You know the backbone of the steroid era when baseball's popularity was at its peak? When we got all the runs and tank shots on a nightly basis? Gone. A thing of the past. You know what runs are to Manfred? Time consuming. Don't need 'em. You know how long it takes guys to circle the bases? Think we got time to wait for a fella to take 15 seconds to cross home plate? Exit stage right pal, no more of that. I'm just waiting for Rob to take out home run trots as a whole. You blast a homer, head right back to the dugout we gotta get this show on the road. It's coming, just you wait.
The Mariners have been no hit twice in 12 days and as a team have a collective batting average of .199. The whole team is below the Mendoza line! Zach Plesac actually took a no hitter into the 8th against them last week. Holy moly what the hell is going on in Seattle?
No hitters are so hot in the streets right now that even the worst umpire in the history of the sport, Angel Hernandez, was able to pop his cherry and call his first one ever on Tuesday night. When we've got a blind guy successfully calling a no-no that's a problem.
Shout out to Spencer Turnbull though. As common as these gems are becoming, it's still pretty awesome to toss one and Spencer had a night he'll never forget on Tuesday. Unfortunately all ESPN seemed to care about was how bad this dude was in 2019.
Congrats on the best night of your life, but more importantly you really STUNK two years ago huh?
P.S. Weird baseball stat of the day: Kyler Seager is now tied with Carl Crawford for the most no-hit losses this century.
