Tony La Russa Ripped His Own Player Yermin Mercedes For Hitting a Homer Off a Position Player on a 3-0 Count Because He’s An Out Of Touch, Delusional Human Being

UPDATE: Adding this to the top of the blog. Steve Nelson just had an AWESOME rant on this exact topic on MLB Net. A+++ in every single way and he speaks for ALL Sox fans (he's an actual Sox fan in real life pretty sure)

Nelly perfectly summated everything we as Sox fans are feeling about TLR's quotes. PERFECTLY.

Okay so there's a lot to unpack here but I'm about to give everyone the spin zone of the day. Before we get to that spin zone, I have a statement:

THE VAST MAJORITY OF YOU ASSHOLES ALL MAKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO QUIT BITCHING ABOUT PEOPLE SWINGING 3-0. LOOKING AT YOU TWINS. LOOKING AT YOU LARUSSA. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE FUCKING SCORE IS. IF YOU DON'T LIKE PEOPLE SWINGING AT THE BASEBALL IN A 3-0 COUNT THEN DON'T FALL BEHIND BY A SHIT TON OF RUNS AND THEN THROW 3 STRAIGHT BALLS TO START AN AT BAT.

Jesus fucking CHRIST I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Yermin Mercedes did NOTHING wrong. Nothing at all. This is a 28 year old rookie playing for his baseball life and so far this year, he's done a pretty good job proving he can stick as a hitter. He should NEVER have to apologize for hitting a bomb. Not EVER, in ANY situation. Nobody should. This is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life.

But in checks the spin zone: what if Tony told the team, "yo, we can't get in a brawl. We can't afford one single injury or suspension, so I'm gonna publicly tell the Twins we're sorry even though we hate those fucking rats and we're not sorry for caving their faces in lats night. That way they won't plunk TA to lead off the game, we won't have to retaliate or charge the mound, and we cave their faces in ON the field. That's how it's gotta be. That's how we gotta handle it, as much as none of us want to handle it that way." The Twins have NOTHING to lose right now, as their season is most likely already cooked, and might say, "fuck it let's plunk TA" just to add some spice to this dog shit start of theirs. This would be Tony's way of nipping that in the bud before it even happened.

What if that's what's going on? Would make sense right?

Ah fuck it who am I kidding. For someone who's so "old school" you'd think he'd be beating the drums of war right now. That the moment TA (or Yermin) gets plunked, the Sox would be ready to go Bear Jew on anyone in the Twins dugout if it got to that point. Nope! He's groveling at their feet begging for forgiveness because someone hit a pitch over the fence in a lopsided game. So goddamn soft. Just don't say anything if that's what you think. IT'S SIMPLE. SAY NOTHING AT ALL. FUCK.

BUT BUT BUT... he's not "new school" where it matters. He's still hellbent on playing Leury Garcia EVERY FUCKING DAY and batting dudes like Jake Lamb 2nd. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. PLEASE. ANYONE.

Sounds like the players on the Sox agree....

Thanks for the blog though Tony, you old asshole.

PS - none of this even begins to talk about how every hit, pitch, dinger, RBI, etc. matters to players that are pre arb and arb eligible. These players use every single statistic they garnish to earn more money, just like the teams use every single lack of statistics against them to pay the players less. I'm not kidding when I ask this question, but I wonder if Yerm (or others) could file a grievance here? Say the manager is suppressing their ability to perform, which eventually could suppress their earnings? Might be a crazy question but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility at least…

Nut the fuck up Tony. Let your players play. You fill out the lineup card and change pitchers. That's it.
