"The Woman In The Window" Starring Amy Adams Came Out This Weekend And Agoraphobia Seems Like A Real Pain

Avoiding as many spoilers as possible, Amy Adams was great in this new Netflix movie/psychological thriller. Here's the Wiki synopsis:

The Woman in the Window is a 2021 American psychological thriller film directed by Joe Wright from a screenplay by Tracy Letts, based on the 2018 novel of the same name by pseudonymous author A. J. Finn. The film follows an agoraphobic woman (Amy Adams) who begins to spy on her new neighbors (Gary Oldman, Fred Hechinger, and Julianne Moore) and is witness to a crime in their apartment. Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, and Jennifer Jason Leigh also star.

Cool, alright! Amy Adams is a doctor who went through some shit, which triggered her agoraphobia, and made it impossible for her to leave her own house. Now, she lives in New York City, but she truly lives in a house. She has an entire brownstone with like, 3 levels and a basement. She keeps the shades drawn most of the time except when she's casually spying on her neighbors - where she sees some shit go down. OR DID SHE????

Agoraphobia sounds like a real pain in the ass, huh? Here's a definition:

Fear of places and situations that might cause panic, helplessness, or embarrassment. Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder that often develops after one or more panic attacks. Symptoms include fear and avoidance of places and situations that might cause feelings of panic, entrapment, helplessness, or embarrassment. Treatments include talk therapy and medication.

Seems like a big fat burden. The world is a scary place! There are plenty of instances that you could run into feelings of panic, entrapment, helplessness AND embarrassment! Sometimes I feel like I have agoraphobia, when I physically can't get out of my bed! But, I am not Amy Adams, I didn't suffer a trauma as big as she did, and I didn't witness a LOT of funny business going on across the street. At one point it's Halloween, and kids are fucking around with her house. But she' can't stop them! Because she can't leave house! Sad faces all around.

In all seriousness I enjoyed the movie and I recommend it. It's not my favorite "seeing things out of a window" movie, though, that title rests firmly with Johnny Depp in Secret Window.
