All Shohei Ohtani Did Last Night Was Toss 7 Innings While Striking Out 10 and Then Go Play A Little Right Field
Just another night where we see Shohei Ohtani doing something we've ever seen before. Ohtani started for the Angels last night and went seven innings, gave up four hits, walked one, gave up one run, and struck out 10. First time he's struck out 10 or more since 2018, not too shabby. He was also in the lineup and went 1-4 on the night. Normally when he was done pitching he'd come out of the game, but they wanted to keep his bat in so they moved him to right field when he came out. That doesn't happen anymore. This is stuff that hasn't happened since Babe Ruth, it's special and we are witnessing something we haven't seen in decades. So not only did he strike out 10, he also played the field. That doesn't seem like much but it's only the second time he has ever played in the outfield.
Every time he's on the baseball field he's doing something we've never seen, it's amazing. As is tradition, the Angels lost but again, Ohtani did his part, only gave up 1 and the Astros scored 4 off the bullpen once he came out. But he did it all for the Angels tonight. I think it's safe to say that's the best game he's pitched since getting Tommy John back in 2018. Want to know the list of players with 10 or more homers in a season and a game with 10 or more strikeouts? It's Ohtani, he did it in 2018 and 2021. He also became the first pitcher in the modern era to strikeout 40 ore more and allow 12 or less hits in his first 5 starts. Dominating. He's a freak. He may not have homered off Chris Carpenter and be the last pitcher with 4 hits in a game like Dan Haren, but he's pretty damn good. We have to stop underplaying how awesome Ohtani is.
