While You Were Sleeping, the Braves and Phillies Played the Drunkest Baseball Game of All-Time

To call this baseball game drunk would be an insult to drunkards everywhere. I don't even know how to truly describe everything that happened in Saturday night's Braves-Phillies game if I had to recount just extra innings alone.

The drunkenness began with the Braves down to their final out in the 9th inning, when Greatest Hitter on Earth Pablo Sandoval stepped up and drilled a two-run, pinch-hit homer to send the game into extras.

That would have been enough excitement for the night if the game ended one way or the other in the 10th. But we were just getting started.

The teams traded zeroes in the 10th and each scored a run in the 11th before the Phillies loaded the bases with nobody out in the 12th and Braves reliever Jacob Webb made what was seemingly the game-ending error.

To make the bad throw is one thing, but to not cover home plate was so infuriating I don't even know how to describe it. It's one of the most braindead plays I've ever seen on a baseball field. Did he think the game was over if the Phillies scored? I truly have no idea wht could have been going through his head.

The game should have been over. But did I mention this game was drunk?

The Braves promptly loaded the bases right back and then recently called-up William Contreras stepped to the plate and knocked in all three men to tie the game once again. And then finally, nearly five hours after first pitch, Ehire Adrianza — who got on base in the 9th via a walk after a great at-bat to set up all this nonsense in the first place — walked the damn thing off.

With the new Mickey Mouse extra innings rules, we don't get nearly as many games like this anymore. It felt good to have a baseball game get totally insane and spill over into Sunday morning. You need one of these every once in a while.
