Elvis Merzlikins Is The People's Goalie. Admits He Doesn't Care About Winning, Just Wants To Score A Goal

They are 14 points out of a playoff spot in the Central and they've traded away all of their actually good players. The moment you trade your captain at the trade deadline, you know the year is done. So for Elvis Merzlikins, it doesn't really matter if the Blue Jackets win or lose these last few remaining games. What does matter, however, is that he sauces one in the back of the net to at least get something of significance out of this season. And that's what makes him the people's goalie.
Could you imagine the balls you have to have to say that to Torts? To go up to that lunatic in the middle of a commercial break as he's talking about grinding out a win and then just saying "yeah no fuck off I'm just gonna send it"? You'd have to have a pair of grapefruits between your thighs. And to Torts' credit, he went with it.
So now the Blue Jackets have 2 games left on their season. They play tonight and tomorrow against the Detroit Red Wings--the only team in the division worse than them. So chances are the Blue Jackets will be able to find themselves up a goal or two late in the 3rd period on both of these nights. If there is one thing that hockey fans should be keeping their eye on as we get closer to the end of the regular season, it's not McDavid going for 100 points in 56 games. It's Elvis Merzlikins getting himself on the scoresheet with a 200 ft snipe show.
