Red Sox Suffer An Absolutely Brutal Loss To The Worst Team In Baseball

Thaaaaaat was fucking brutal to watch. Holy shit.

Listen, I'm not going to take anything away from Casey Mize. He was great in this one, going six innings, holding the Red Sox to just one earned run on three hits. The dude deserved to get the win tonight. But goddamn did the Red Sox have every opportunity to win this game once Mize exited. There's a lot of bad to talk about, as you can imagine.

First and foremost, I am officially done with Franchy Cordero. He's hitting .153 with a fucking .393 OPS. Pitchers hit better than that. Speaking of hits, he hasn't had one since Marathon Monday, and on top of that he sucks defensively. Get 'em out of here. Give me Jarren Duran. Give me Danny Santana. Give me Michael Chavis. Give me Jonny Gomes. Give me fucking anybody but Franchy. Can't take it anymore.

Next, we've got injuries. Christian Arroyo got hit on the same hand that he got hit a few games ago and had to come out. Alex Verdugo had a tight back and didn't start in this one or come off the bench to pinch hit late. It's a marathon not a sprint, so you have to respect Alex Cora sticking to staying away from Verdugo in some of those late inning spots, but damn it would've been nice to have him up there with the game on the line.

This was a 3-1 ballgame in the bottom of the seventh when JD Martinez hammered a two-run bomb to tie it up, also tying Ronald Acuña Jr. for the most homers in the majors. The game would stay tied into the bottom of the ninth when Xander Bogaerts would come up with two outs and the bases loaded. The Red Sox shortstop stung a liner into left-center that looked like it could be a game-ender but ended up getting caught. Blue balls central.

In the top of the tenth, Garrett Whitlock struck out Jonathan Schoop but it was called a ball for some fucking reason. He proceeded to dump a base hit into right to put runners at the corners. Absolutely infuriating.

Next batter up was Jeimer Candelario, who obviously crushed a three-run bomb because fuck me. Total garbage. The Red Sox didn't go quietly in the bottom of the tenth, which you can take one of two ways. You love that they fought, but you hate that they made a three-run game into a one-run game only to lose anyway. Marwin Gonzalez singled home a run, while Hunter Renfroe knocked in a run on an error up the middle. Speaking of the middle, this game ended with Kiké Hernandez taking a 97mph heater right down the dick for strike three. I'm assuming he was looking for something offspeed or maybe something that wasn't begging to get smashed onto the Mass Pike, but alas. Red Sox lose. What a fucking terrible loss.

I can't believe we're going into the series finale with the worst team in baseball in a rubber match, but here we are. We're getting Nathan Eovaldi versus Spencer Turnbull in a little day game action. This is only Turnbull's fourth start of the season, and his last time out he gave up four earned in five innings against the Yankees. Eovaldi is coming off a solid start against the Rangers in which he went six one-run innings with five strikeouts. Gotta shake this one off and take the series. I know it sounds dramatic, but if you lose this one, it changes the vibe of the entire season somewhat drastically, especially after dropping three of four to the shitty Rangers.

Final score: Tigers 6, Red Sox 5
