The Atlanta Braves Just Got No-Hit and One-Hit in a Doubleheader in an Impressive Display of Ineptitude

Hello darkness, my old friend.

One hit?! And they played two separate games?! Ah, we are truly back.

I just really don't get it. On paper, this Braves team should be right there with the 2020 squad, even with some of the early injuries and still being without Mike Soroka. The results we've seen so far are not even close to what any reasonable person would or should expect from these guys.

Outside of Ronald Acuña Jr., I don't really think there's a position on the field you could point to and say the Braves have somebody who's playing above league average right now. The only one that's even arguable would be Freddie Freeman, who entered Sunday's doubleheader hitting .209. Pretty much everybody else has been somewhere between trash and forgettable.

And I know it's a very long season — I think some overreactions so far are due to the fact we forget there are 100 more games than we saw last year — but we're now 21 games into this thing and I don't see much evidence that too much is going to change. You can hope things will change, but hope is not a strategy.

Regardless, credit to Madison Bumgarner and Zac Gallen for their work on the mound today. It's bullshit for Bumgarner that MLB isn't recognizing his outing today as a no-hitter. If the seven-inning games count in the standings, then any records accumulated should count, too. After all, MLB is who decided to play them. He pitched the entire game and didn't give up a base hit. That's a no-hitter.

But please just figure something out, Braves. This sucks.
