The Yankees Actually Won a Baseball Game Behind Great Pitching And One Helluva Stache

Yankees 3 Braves 1

Can you believe it? The New York Yankees won a baseball game. Their first in what seems like months. Craziest part is that it was behind some awesome pitching to get the job done. Am I feeling all the more encouraged heading into Wednesday? Heavens no, but goddamn does it feel god to score more runs than the opposing team.

Jameson Taillon gets the first nod in this blog. With the narrative pressing, and rightfully so, that the Yankees starting pitching outside Gerrit Cole was killing this team, Jameson Taillon stepped up and shoved. Was it only for five innings? Yes, but don't let it distract you from the results.

Pregame I asked for 15 outs from Taillon. He gave us 15 outs. Few mistakes on the back to back doubles, but other than that this man was efficient and effective. The stuff was good and he located tonight. With 80 pitches some fans were hoping to push him for a sixth frame. I was totally fine cutting him off there and going into the next outing feeling great. This bullpen was rested and loaded, take it from there. There are issues within the Yankees starting rotation. I do not consider Jameson Taillon one of those as long as he remains healthy. Big step forward tonight as far as I'm concerned.

Offensively tonight was alarmingly much of the same. Giancarlo and Gleyber at bats were worth next to nothing. I really cannot explain the Gleyber struggles. Last year he was out of shape sure, but now I don't get it. He is so much better than what we're seeing, but it's yet to get any better. Giancarlo is just chasing pitches so out of the zone. We're used to these streaks and he'll come around, but Gleyber is perplexing. Gio should not be hitting below Gleyber for the foreseeable future. Gio is the only one in my mind, outside DJ, who consistently has an idea of what he's doing in each at bat. Gio's bomb in the 5th knotted up the score and gave this team a jolt of life.

Mike Ford and his illustrious stache made an appearance tonight.

It was nice to have a first baseman that knew what he was doing. You know maybe play guys that have a primary feel with the position? Offensively he swung out of his shoes a few times, but ended up drawing a bases loaded walk that extended the lead to two late. Defensively he held his own, as expected, and even made a sweet game ending catch to close out the victory.

1-0 with Ford's stache and that's all that matters. Fuck all the haters.

Bullpen wise after Taillon was excellent as it's been all season long. Luetge, Green, Wilson, Loasiga, and Chapman were nails to get the final 12 outs. Was I curious as to why Luetge was deployed in a tie ball game in the 6th, AND in the 7th as well? Sure was, but the job was done and I cannot complain at this moment.

Feels good to get a win. The offense continues to limp to the finish line, but I'll take a win anyway I can get it. Let's try and do that again tomorrow too? Kluber I'm begging for 15 outs. Might have to be the fucking mantra with every starter not named Cole.
