After 12 Years in AAA Without a Big League Appearance, 36-Year-Old Sean Kazmar Is Being Called Up by the Braves

Man, this is really cool.

Sean Kazmar has 39 career Major League at-bats, all of which came in 2008 with the Padres. He's been in the minors ever since, hoping to one day get one more crack at The Show. And now at 36 years old and after 1,106 minor league appearances since he last played on a Big League field, he'll get that chance again.

I recognize Kazmar's name as a Braves fan, because he's been in spring training lineups and at AAA Gwinnett since 2012. I guess it never really occurred to me during the regular season that we'd never seen this guy in an actual game, but every March, he was back in Orlando ready to play in the games nobody cared about and then head back down to the minor leagues for a full season — without a real chance of making it back up to the big club.

Now his kids will get to see him put on an Atlanta Braves uniform and hopefully get out there at some point in the time he's with the team until Ozzie Albies comes back from his injury. However much Kazmar gets to contribute while he's in the Big Leagues, he can always say he made it back up to The Show. Those 12 years weren't for nothing.

And Kazmar earned his chance. In spring training this year, he slashed .409/.552/.864. I really hope we get to see him come up with a big hit or a nice play in the field. What an awesome story.
