Helen McCrory AKA "Aunt Polly" From Peaky Blinders Passes Away At 52

(SOURCE)

The actor Helen McCrory has died at the age of 52. McCrory was best known for her roles in the films The Queen and The Special Relationship and the Harry Potter franchise, and TV series including Peaky Blinders.

Her husband, fellow actor Damian Lewis, confirmed her death via Twitter, saying that McCrory had died “peacefully at home”. Lewis said: “I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died … surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.”

He added that his wife had “died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now Little One, into the air, and thank you.”

This sucks. Truthfully, I had no idea that Mrs. Helen McCrory was even sick and I hope that everything I've read is true about her passing peacefully. I won't act like I know anything about her outside of her work in Peaky Blinders and James Bond, but she was a certified badass in Peaky Blinders. Just an outstanding, outstanding actress. She stole many scenes and got rid of that piece of shit Inspector Campbell. In a cast that included Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Sam Neill and Paul Anderson, she was every bit as good on the show as they were. That's a bold, but true statement IMO.

Just watch her "best of" montage on YouTube:

She was just awesome through and through. Just a conniving, manipulative, bad ass bitch. You either hated her or loved her and that's how you know she dominated her role. She enticed emotion from the viewer. That's not easy to do.

No idea what her passing means for the next/last season of Peaky Blinders, but I'd imagine they send Aunt Polly off in an awesome way. Per this article that was published yesterday, she was ready to come back for the 6th and final season, but it says nothing about her health struggles or if they've even begun filming yet:

Speaking of Tommy Shelby, the cast of the sixth season seems to have gone through small changes with Charlie Murphy, who plays Jessie Eden, not returning for the upcoming season. For the most part, the main cast will stay the same with Murphy, Helen McCrory, Finn Cole, Paul Anderson, and Sophie Rundle reprising their respective roles.

Nevertheless, you know the writers will make sure the show pays great homage to one it's best characters and stars. Regardless though, rest easy Aunt Polly. Awful news on a Friday morning.
