Our Sweet Angel Jakub Vrana Has Been Traded to Detroit For Monster Human Being Anthony Mantha

Not our sweet angel Jake!!!!!

What a bummer. Man. Kinda stunning to see Jakub Vrana shipped out of DC like this. I thought he'd be around for another decade. We've watched him develop into a solid offensive player with huge upside, culminating with 25 goals last season. Unfortunately he is also a very streaky player, and ended up in Coach Laviolette's dog house this season. Ultimately, he couldn't recover and the Caps have traded him for Anthony Mantha.

Who is Anthony Mantha? He's a ginormous human being with a great shot. 

I think people are saying we overpaid, and while including a first rounder in the package isn't optimal, Mantha isn't a rental (still have him for 3 more years under contract) so it kind of equals out. Plus he's only 26 years old to boot. Meanwhile, Vrana is a RFA. 

So with this trade the Caps get bigger, more physical, more depth, and another big body. I hate seeing Vrana go, but he'll shine in Detroit.
