BREAKING: The 49ers Just Traded for the No. 3 Pick. Jimmy G-to-NE is Now Very Much in Play

Well, well, well.
Here I was, not a few short hours ago, speculating about whether or not the 49ers might find a replacement quarterback for Jimmy Garoppolo and make him available for a return to New England.
Deshaun Watson is basically an untouchable barrel full of toxic radioactive waste at the moment. Most of the other available quarterbacks in the trade market have found homes. I discounted the rumors the Dolphins might be willing to part with Tua Tagovailoa after just one year. I mentioned a reported interest in Sam Darnold, just because Kyle Shanahan has said nice things about being interested in him in the past. All of which led me to conclude that if John Lynch was serious about replacing Jimmy G, he'd do it through the draft.
And I say again:
Was The Belichick Whisperer [tm] right again, or was The Belichick Whisperer [tm] right again?
There's no way San Francisco spends all this draft capital to get up into the Top 3 of the Class of 2021 NOT to take a quarterback. The internet is lousy with mock drafts that have quarterbacks going with the first four picks. And you don't spend the 12th overall, a 3rd, and multiple future 1sts just to stow your guy away on the bench for a year. Nor do you keep your current QB1 and his $25 million cap hit standing around holding a blue Microsoft tablet.

Like I said earlier, stay tuned. Bill Belichick is in the 9th inning and just one out away from pitching a perfect game this offseason. Jimmy G's triumphant return to the man who drafted and developed him cannot be far behind.
