Jon Rothstein Gives Us An Update From Inside The NCAA Tournament's Controlled Environment

This. Is. March. Selection Sunday is in the books, and for the first time in two years, we officially have a NCAA Tournament Bracket. The Big Dance is here and there is nobody better to have on for a bracket breakdown than the one and only Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. The college hoops reporter joined today's Pardon My Take to discuss each of the four regions of this year's bracket (named after steakhouses), how COVID could affect things when it comes to the tournament, and more. Jon is actually posted up in Indianapolis for the duration of the tournament, and gave Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter some insight to what it is like out there. Take a look:

Mr. Cat: You need to create a one-liner for the bubble.

Jon Rothstein: Just a one-liner for the bubble?

Mr. Cat: Well, yeah, something that is like the bubble.

Jon Rothstein: Yeah, I'll give you an example. So many thoughts were going through my head when I got this assignment, but my mind went to one place when I found out this was going to be a possibility. Do you remember the opening scene of "Rambo 2" where Rambo is in prison and Colonel Trautman goes, "A computer dug up your name as one of three most likely to complete the mission." Because I was like, "This isn't an assignment, it's a mission."

Jon Rothstein: It's 24-25 days in an enclosed environment, there's three places I can be, guys. I can be in this hotel room, I can be in the convention center where the teams are going to practice, and I'm going to have my own setup where I can do hits from for CBS and Turner, or I can be at a game site. And that's it for 24 days. There's no haircuts, there's no going to pick up food, there's no going to the gym, there's no for runs, it's pretty much just straight college basketball and on Thursday when we kick it off, 67 games in 18 days.

Mr. Cat: Hold on. What you just described, like this isn't a mission for you, this is heaven.

Jon Rothstein: Yeah, I'm really enjoying it so far.

Mr. Cat: You have eliminated the entire world except for college basketball. If Jon Rothstein could make his own heaven, it would be the bubble in Indianapolis.

Eat, sleep, college basketball. That is all that is on the schedule for Jon Rothstein over the course of the next four weeks. And if you know him, he wouldn't have it any other way. I can't wait for Friday, you can't wait for Friday, we all can't wait for Friday. After getting robbed of a tournament last year, the 2021 version is going to be that much sweeter.
