Kansas State Is Finally Playing Sandstorm At Basketball Games Again ... As Long As Fans Stop Chanting 'Fuck KU'

Every school has that *one* song that every fan knows. LSU has Neck, Alabama has Dixieland Delight, etc. For Kansas State it's Sandstorm. Don't believe me, take these videos as my evidence:

You might not be able to hear Sandstorm there over the fuck KU chant, but that's what makes it awesome. I'm a sucker for a good rivalry and spite. Kansas State has plenty of spite towards Kansas. They are the little brother through and through when it comes to Kansas basketball. So hitting them with a Fuck KU chant? Love it. I don't care if there are kids in the arena. This is a college game. This is what college athletics are all about. Sorry Tommy, you're going to learn how to hate Kansas if you go to a Kansas State game. It got to the point where the President had to put out a message to students back in 2017.

As the first year of my presidency unfolds, I continue to be even more impressed by the wonderful accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff. I hear daily about a student’s accomplishment or a faculty member’s significant research. What a pleasant surprise to discover our university is even better than I knew. This is why I decided to compete to become your president.

One surprise that has not been pleasant is hearing a vulgar chant at sporting events targeted at our in-state rival. It’s easy to see how one can get caught up in the moment. However, many of my friends across the nation reached out to me following last week’s men’s basketball game and expressed their dismay. The chant was clearly heard from coast to coast on national television. It was personally embarrassing and not what one expects from a world-class university.

The strength of the Wildcat family lies in passing our legacy from one generation to the next. K-Staters are known for doing the right thing. Whether our fans are 8, 18 or 80, they deserve the best fan experience in the Big 12. I think about those younger fans sitting in the stands or watching on television and know they represent our next generation. As we continue the spring competition season, let’s show them the Wildcat Way.

The man used to be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A real power player and now he has to worry about a bunch of hyped up fans chanting fuck KU. Not sure which job is tougher. Again, I'm a fan of it. I'm thrilled we have games back this year but I miss shit like this. I miss fans losing their minds and all the reactions. But when Kansas State upset Oklahoma earlier this week, they didn't only break out the purple jerseys, they broke out Sandstorm

Now could it be? Could Sandstorm be back? According to the AD it will be back as long as people stop chanting fuck KU. (h/t Kansas)

Not unless K-State can find a way to eliminate the KU chant, Taylor said. The chant could be heard while the song was played Tuesday.

“It won’t come out very often,” Taylor said, “and when we get back to normal capacity with students it may not happen at all.”

For now, Taylor said the song will be saved for “very special occasions” like Mike McGuirl leading the Wildcats to a come-from-behind victory against a top 10 opponent.

“Fans love it as well as the students,” Taylor said, “but we need to come up with a new chant to hear it very often.”

Let me be the first to publicly say - fuck this. Just play it. Let the kids have fun. Let there be hate in a rivalry. It's a swear word, who cares? We need to normalize swear words and we need to normalize hating opponents in sports. You have a sick name for your arena with the Octagon of Doom. You have something unique. Let it happen and let the kids chant fuck KU. Bring it back.
