Tiger Woods' Team Releases A Statement Detailing The Extent Of His Leg Injuries

What a long day it's been for Tiger Woods and his family. For as nerve-wracking as its been for golf fans everywhere, it's been a billion times worse for those around him and the man himself.  That's why it was almost surprising to see a statement come out late tonight. Tiger Woods is a man who values his privacy and one would think after such a long and traumatic day, a statement could wait for the morning at the very least.

Obviously it's not like he's writing this thing or even contributing to it in any manner, but it's very encouraging to hear that he's awake and responsive. That's the most important thing here and we're all thankful that it does not look like his life is in danger.

The rest of this statement is where the attention shifts as it probably creates as many questions as it answers. The reports early in the evening were that he suffered a shattered ankle and broke both legs, including a compound fracture in one of them. The quote from the Chief Medical Officer only addresses his right leg, perhaps suggesting that there was little to no serious damage to his left. I suppose that's good. But it sounds like his right leg is pretty damn jacked up. Twitter doctors everywhere googled the word "comminuted" and did not like what they found:

Little to no detail was given as to what this means long-term. I'm sure the doctors are far from having answers on that themselves, let alone that knowledge being made known to the public. But I'm going to choose to believe the word "stabilized" is the key one here and that might mean no permanent damage will be done and Tiger will be back on his feet. Who the heck knows. All I know is I'm glad I'm probably not going to have to explain to my kids that the old guy in the wheelchair at the Par 3 Tournament every year was once the greatest to ever do it.

For a lot of the day we were hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Now I think there's hope. Hell, he's won majors on one leg before. Ben Hogan was in a horrific car crash with a bus in 1949 and went on to win 6 more majors. We saw what Tiger overcame in 2019, why the hell can't he do it again? Call me crazy, I don't care. Either way there's going to be a long road to recovery, and there might not be a better human on planet Earth better suited to tackle that than Tiger Woods. Get well soon Tiger.
