Even With His New Job, Auburn Still Owes Gus Malzahn His Full $21.5 Million Buyout Thanks to the Best Contract of All-Time

On Monday, former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn was officially introduced as the new head man at UCF, where he'll make $11.5 million over the next five years. There are many worse fates to suffer after being fired from an SEC school than immediately landing another head coaching job at a place where it's very feasible to win at a high level and getting paid more than $2 million a year to do it.

But that $11.5 million is just icing on the cake for Malzahn, thanks to the greatest contract of all-time he got Auburn to sign.

See, even though he got a new job, Malzahn is still getting every penny of his $21.5 million buyout from Auburn. Most contracts contain language that mitigates buyouts if the terminated coach gets a new job and requires them to prove they're seeking employment elsewhere to get the money. But somehow, Malzahn and his agent got that part left out and finessed Auburn to the tune of one hell of a payday.

So in addition to the couple million he's making every year in Orlando — with no state income taxes — he's also getting about $3 million a year from his former employer. And you may think to yourself, "That doesn't add up to $21.5 million." Yeah, that's because Auburn had to cut him a check for half of it within a month of him being fired.

The Gus Bus may have pulled off the greatest heist in college football history. He moved from Auburn to Orlando and will end up making a minimum of $33 million to do it. Go get that bag, king.
