Draft Scouts Are Souring on Zach Wilson Because He Was on BYU's 'Leadership Council' But Wasn't a Team Captain

Cancel Zach Wilson. I don't give a damn if he threw for 33 touchdowns and just three picks last season and looks like the most dynamic quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, he was only on BYU's leadership council and wasn't elected a team captain. He should be off every team's draft board.

We have a real life Bo Callahan situation on our hands. Nobody went to Wilson's birthday party and next we'll hear about how he lied about the $100 bill at the back of the playbook.

In all seriousness, this is the insanity that is the NFL Draft. These guys at the top of the Draft — especially quarterbacks — are overanalyzed to a point that even the people doing all this research on them would have to admit it's overkill if they were being honest. They've all watched so much film that even when they know a guy like Wilson is going to be a great football player, they have to find things like this to critique.

And I'm not quite up to speed on the difference between the leadership council and the team captains at BYU, but if I was to take a wild guess, I would venture that most, if not all, of the team captains were seniors. Obviously, Wilson was just entering his junior season when the captains were selected.

But this should hopefully work out great for the Atlanta Falcons. I've seen way too many mock drafts with Wilson going No. 2 to the Jets or the Panthers trading up to No. 3 and selecting him. So you know what, I say let the red flags flow. He's not going to be good, guys. There are just too many questions.

All I know is I saw one throw from this guy well before he was a projected first round pick that ruined my life for a little while and I want him on my side for the foreseeable future to atone for it.
