Pedro Pascal Will Play Joel In 'The Last of Us' HBO Series!
Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Pascal’s Joel, tormented by past trauma and failure, must trek across a pandemic-ravaged America, all the while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity.
ICYMI, Bella Ramsey (Aka Lyanna Mormont from GoT), is set to play Ellie as well.
To me, this is fucking awesome. If you know me, you know that I think The Last of Us is one of the best video games ever made, and I've been siked for this series since it was announced last year. They have Craig Maizin, creator of the incredible mini-series 'Chernobyl' at HBO, at they helm and also brought in the actual games writer and creative director Neil Druckmann. To me, this is a recipe for success where so many video game adaptations have failed.
Now insert Bella Ramsey, who was amazingly badass in GoT, and Pedro Pascal, who has now solidified himself as maybe the ultimate badass father figure, and we have an almost guaranteed win on our hands here as audience members. Now all of you can feel free to bitch and moan about TLOU2 in the comments.
