This season is one of the most disgusting displays of defense you’re ever going to see. Teams putting up a combined total of almost 300 points in REGULATION? UGH.
One of the reasons players are mailing it on defense in my opinion comes down to the lack of crowds in the stands… people that can boo and hiss and hot chicks you don’t want to be embarrassed in front of. Sometimes hot chicks that will also boo and hiss and tell you they are going to whoop that ass like we saw last night with “Courtside Karen” and Lebron James.
The thing that was fascinating about this interaction wasn’t that the woman claimed she was 25 and looked 40 (and then apparently posted her driver’s license to IG to prove it), but the way Lebron felt about it after the game.
Instead of being like “yeah that Karen and her Jose Canseco-looking boyfriend needed to be removed” he leaned in and appreciated how nice it was to finally have spectators there to heckle him and provide him with the fuel he and so many other players are missing so very much.
This is what he said:
“I miss that interaction. I need that interaction we as players need that interaction. I don’t think it was warranted to be kicked out. There was a back and forth between grown men. They might have had a couple of drinks maybe? I don’t think they should have been kicked out. I don’t think them taking their masks off was harming anyone”
Remember when Lebron went OFF a couple of weeks back after his former front office staffer in Cleveland clapped too vigorously when he bricked his last shot of the first half?
He used THAT clap as fuel. This is what is missing. The fans reaction that up the level of intensity and play on the court.
I talked about this exact point on the last episode of THIS LEAGUE and even provided a solution that I think could help us see more defense and quality play throughout the season. Spoiler: more old people and THOTS courtside.
We also talk about why the Mavs are the most disappointing team in the NBA, why I don’t care how many regular season games the Jazz win, they’re still not contenders, and we answer some DMs from listeners.
