The NCAA Had A Chance To Deliver The Greatest Tournament Decision Ever And Shockingly They Just Screwed It Up
We all know the NCAA Tournament is going to Indy, I blogged it this morning. It makes sense because of the numerous amount of gyms to be played at, the location, all that good stuff. But really we were so close to getting the perfect NCAA Tournament. We were even teased with it when the locations of the event dropped:
Two courts at Lucas Oil. We were so close to getting AAU style hoops, which this entire season has been. It would have been AWESOME to see that go on during the NCAA Tournament. Hell, we see it during the C-USA Tournament in Texas.
The name of the game is to get as many games in as fast as possible so we get the NCAA Tournament. That's the key. We can't have any sort of shit pulled from us again. So why not run two games at a time if you're going to have two courts? I guess the lack of downtime since you can have warmups going on and immediately play the second game? But either way, knock out two at a time and get it going. We're still waiting to see the schedule, but here's what we know:
There's really no need for the delay in rounds like we typically get because there's no travel. From the Round of 32 to Sweet 16, you don't need a week off. You can go Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday for the first and second round like normal and then just start playing again on Tuesday. If anything build in the delay for the title game and Final Four if you have to because of positive tests.
But the fact is this entire season has been weird. We've gone full AAU/5-Star Camp style with the scheduling. Why not end it that way? Give us what we want. There's a chance there are fans in the stands even, you know what I'd love to do? Sit there and bounce back and forth from games like it's my own remote.
Can we really be surprised though? The NCAA can't make two smart decisions, that's just not what they do. They are the dumbest organization out there. They did the smart thing by putting it in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. They could have made it even better by playing at high schools and multiple games at once. As for the schedule we'll see. I assume they'll still go all day like they typically do because they need to knock out as many games as possible. Now just get us there. Give me the NCAA Tournament.
