The NHL Is Playing 2 Games At Lake Tahoe This Year And It'll Be A Perfect Opportunity For The Flyers To Pump The Bruins

Sportsnet - According to multiple sources, the NHL is beginning its Mystery, Alaska experiment, with four teams as part of a unique two-game, two-day “Outdoor Weekend” showcase at Lake Tahoe. Edgewood Tahoe Resort, home of the popular celebrity golf tournament, is hosting these games, which will be played around the 16th, 17th and 18th holes.

…Fans will not be in attendance, with the number of people limited to about 400 — basically the teams’ travelling parties and whoever is needed to work. It will give television different opportunities to broadcast the games, such as drone cameras.

You ever seen Mystery, Alaska before? Who am I kidding, of course you have. It's an incredible film and everything like that, but the ending sucks. Don't give me this happy go lucky feel good moral victory crap. The team from Mystery blew a 2-goal lead and they lost. People forget that. They didn't even manage to steal a point in the standings and take the game to overtime. End of story.

Now do the Flyers have way more in common with the Mystery team than the Bruins would in this situation? Sure. Claude Giroux is their John Biebe. Kevin Hayes is their Stevie Weeks. And now that big ass Sam Morin is making the switch over to left wing to get himself on the roster this year, he's their Tree Lane.

Imagine Marchand trying to run around out there on the lake when he knows he'll have to answer the bell with Sam Morin on his next shift? Forget about it.

So let's just get out ahead of this thing and say this game won't end up being like Mystery, Alaska. But it'll be more like Mystery, Alaska 2: Electric Boogaloo.

As for the actual logistics of everything here, I can't wait. The NHL may have run the Winter Classic into the ground but you can't say that they don't put together a great product. I'm sure they'll have the best guys in the world making sure that the ice is perfect. I'm sure the broadcast will be able to get more up close and personal now that they won't have to deal with a ton of fans in a stadium. It'll be unlike anything we've ever seen before. And with the Flyers being an absolute wagon this year, it'll be a fantastic day to watch the Philadelphia Flyers dominate a great game of competitive men's ice hockey. Cannot wait. Obviously the Colorado vs Vegas game will also kick ass.
