Disney Just Announced A Shit Ton Of New Star Wars And Marvel Projects LIVE BLOG

Most of the investor day call is bullshit so I'll be updating this blog with important stuff as it comes. Yea, that's right. A live blog that is actually a live blog.

Over the next few years, there will be 10 Star Wars series, 10 Marvel series, 15 Disney live action, Disney animation and Pixar series plus 15 all-new Disney live action, Disney Animation, and Pixar features will be released directly on Disney+

- This is tremendous news. We've talked a lot on LCB about how the one reason the three of us are subscribed to Disney+ is The Mandalorian. The rest of the newer content hasn't really appealed as much, nor has the catalogue. And getting TEN new Star Wars and Marvel series is pretty much the best we could have asked for. With Mando already proof positive that these can work in theory for Star Wars, all eyes are on 'Wandavision' to see if it can do the same with Marvel.

They're launching a platform named Star/Star+, which combine the existing Disney content with a bunch of different content like sports, mature rated movies, and more in international markets.

-  This is interesting because it looks like this will be a litmus test for how they can do this in the US market. I would assume that Disney wants to be able to make everything all inclusive at some point in the future, but they also have a brand expectation. If I'm able to watch the Disney catalogue along with movies like 'Logan', 'Die Hard', 'It's Always Sunny' and more, than I'm a happy man.

ESPN has a new deal with the SEC and will add college football's most-watched TV package beginning with the 2024 season. In January, ESPN+ is launching an exclusive new studio show featuring Stephen A.

I know the SEC news is big to many, but getting more Stephen A in our lives is the MUCH bigger news here.

In 2021 'Man in the Arena', a 9-part docuseries built around Tom Brady's first-hand account of the journey to each of his 9 super bowls will be released.

Love him or hate him, Brady is undeniably the greatest football player in history. Getting a peek behind the veil of 22 year old social media managers that run his accounts and hearing his first-hand stories about the highs and lows (almost entirely highs) should be amazing. Hopefully, it's not too manicured.

New shows coming to Hulu:

Only Murders in the Building starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez

The Dropout starring Kate McKinnon. It is the story of Elizabeth Holmes, the weirdo blood lady.

Dopesick starring Michael Keaton, Rosario Dawson and Peter Sarsgaard. It is a drama series inspired by true events

Nine Perfect Strangers starring Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Regina Hall. It is a thriller series.

Steve Martin (who is currently on the bestseller list) is a fucking treat, as is Martin Short. Gomez is also a very good actress and kind of goes under the radar in that regard. The Dropout has great subject matter, but I am just so sick of McKinnons style of comedy. Both Dopesick and Nine Perfect Strangers have a killer combinations of actors, but I want to know more about both.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' has been renewed for FOUR MORE SEASONS

Fuck. Yes.

There is an 'Alien' series in the works at FX that will be directed by the director of 'Fargo' and 'Legion', Noah Hawley alongside Ridley Scott'. It will be set in the not-too-distant future on earth.

Alien is such a fucking cool franchise that has been BEGGING for a proper reboot. I think a series from a guy like Hawley might just be EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.

The WILLOW series from 'Crazy Rich Asians' director Jon Chu will be released in 2022

Indiana Jones 5 is officially being directed by James Mangold, director of 'Logan' and 'Ford v Ferrari'

A new Star Wars movie is currently in development by Taika Waititi

The next theatrically released Star Wars movie will be 'Rogue Squadron' from 'Wonder Woman' director Patty Jenkins

Wow. WOW. That was a fucking lot. Which made it even more fun since I make all our graphics for IG while blogging it for y'all. Here is the quick down and dirty: a lot of this we already knew, but the new stuff is pretty insane. Filoni and Favs getting not one, but TWO new series to make is incredibly promising since they are the best creators in the Star Wars world right now.

The Bad Batch arc was a little annoying in the last season of Clone Wars, but getting a fleshed out look at the transition of the republic to the empire is pretty cool. I'm very intrigued in 'The Acolyte' since we don't really get a look into this era of the Star Wars timeline.

The Taika thing was rumored forever so it wasn't a surprise. He is a fantastic writer and director so look forward for his movie to be the best star wars movie since the original trilogy. Patty Jenkins is also a very good director, and I'm curious to learn more about what Rogue Squadron is going to be about.

What is incredibly cool to me is the Hayden Christiansen news. He ate a lot of shit for the prequel trilogy which wasn't very fair IMO. He's been a fan favorite for years and I'm so pumped to see him get another shot

Mangold getting Indy is great since he knows how to properly blend practical and CGI as to not make something feel watered down. Also, since this is the last Indy movie, keep in mind how great Mangold did when he wrapped up Wolverine's arc with 'Logan', which is arguably the best comic book movie ever.
