Starting 9 Crushed Their Mini Doc With Cy Young Winner Shane Bieber, Who Should Be Next?

So a few weeks back the Starting 9 guys got to spend the entire day with Cleveland Indians' pitcher, Shane Bieber as he got ready to be named unanimous AL Cy Young winner. I knew he was going to win, you knew he was going to win, everyone knew he was going to win. So Dallas and Jared being able to tag along with Biebs on the golf course, dinner, and at his house while they announce he was the 2020 Cy Young winner is unreal. This isn't something you see everyday, and Starting 9 got an up close and personal look that you haven't really seen before. Really good stuff if you haven't seen it yet, def recommend giving it a watch.

Jared posed a question about who the fans would want to see in the future for another possible mini documentary type video, and I think there are some interesting choices out there. Obviously no one knows what Covid has in store for the next few months, and if we'll even get to have reporters and media at games, let alone fans. Kind of just a wishlist here.

Trey Mancini

Obviously the first storyline that jumped to mind for me was the return of Trey Mancini in 2021. As you know, Mancini was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer back in March, missed the entire year, and after finishing chemo in September, should be good to go for 2021 as the face the Orioles. It's a great story for a guy I consider a friend, and that baseball fans were starting to recognize as one of the better players in the game. With Covid still going on this won't be able to happen just for the fact that Mancini is considered high risk. But man would I love to the guys to be able to follow him around while he's in the cages, training, really get into his head on what this comeback will be like. Think it would be pretty awesome to watch.

Bryce Harper

One of, if not the biggest names in baseball, watching Dallas and Jared follow Bryce around for the season would be fantastic. Starting 9 such a good interview with him a few months back, so you already know he's comfortable with them. Bryce has never been one to hold back his thoughts on anything and I think he'd be a great follow for a doc. Hell, half of an episode could just be on what he does to get his hair like that. When he's hot he's a walking MVP Candidate, who wouldn't like to get all the behind the scenes looks at what goes on with Bryce?

Tim Anderson

One of the best hitters in baseball, and also a guy who has 0 problem showing emotion, even when it comes to his dinosaur manager. Anderson is a fan favorite in Chicago, and for good reason. He talks A LOT, he bat flips, he hits the shit out of the ball, and he pisses off the opposition. Wouldn't it be awesome to hear what goes into all that? I mean the White Sox are on the come up, and Anderson is a big reason for that. I want to hear from him when he's driving home from the game after he tossed a bat into the Royals dugout, or after pissing off another team, give me what goes into that. He have the bat flip planned or does it just happen?

Kyle Lewis

If you're just a casual baseball fan you probably have 0 clue who Kyle Lewis is. Well wake up, get the fat out of your ears, and start paying attention. The reigning AL ROY in 2020, Lewis is a future stud for the Mariners and is just getting started. If and when the Mariners start to turn this thing around, look to Lewis as one of the big reasons. Getting to listen to and talk with the ROY going into his second season and trying to avoid that sophomore slump would be a damn good conversation. How does he keep it up in year 2 when pitchers have a book out on him, how does he stay hot for 162 instead of 60. Even just him being in Seattle already puts him behind the 8 ball in terms of popularity and prime time recognition, this could give a nice little look into who he is.

Marcus Stroman

Another guy with superstar potential who has a good relationship with Dallas and Jared, Stroman would be a veryyyy popular pick if you asked me. Like Bryce, he has 0 problem voicing his opinion on anything that happens, is a spark plug on the mound, and he plays for the Mets. What could be more interesting than finding out what goes on deep in the basement within the Mets organization. He also was one of the players who opted out of the 2020 season, think it would be neat to find out what went into that decision, what it was like to sit at home and watch while your guys are playing, how he stayed in shape, and just what the hell he did for those 2 months when baseball was in session. I feel like a guy like Stroman would have a field day with the camera.

Those were just some of the first few guys that jumped off the page at me, obviously they aren't going to follow Mike Trout, or Mookie Betts, but I think this is a good starting point for a list of guys the Starting 9 boys could do a mini doc on. And again, if you haven't seen the piece they did with Bieber, make sure you check it out. Let me know who you think would make a good mini doc follow and who knows, lets see what the boys can whip up.
