A Rocket On The Way To The International Space Station Blew Up Over The Weekend Because Even The Smartest People In The World Sometimes Can't Get It Right

(Blows up at 2:35)

A little over two minutes into the launch of SpaceX CRS-7, a cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station, there was a problem shortly before the first stage shutdown leading to the loss of the vehicle and its pieces falling into the Atlantic.  On Twitter Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, wrote: Falcon 9 experienced a problem shortly before first stage shutdown. Will provide more info as soon as we review the data. … There was an overpressure event in the upper stage liquid oxygen tank. Data suggests counterintuitive cause. The Dragon capsule carried 2,477 kg (5,461 pounds) of food, technical equipment and science experiments for the International Space Station.

You hate to see this type of thing happen, but if you think about it in terms of it being just another job, you really like to see this type of thing happen. Because the smartest people in the world worked tirelessly to get this rocket into space. Doing all sorts of engineering and math and formulas that us common folk can’t even begin to understand. And yet it still fucks up and blows up in their faces. That SUCKS. We’ve all felt that pain before. You work forever on a project and then everything gets wiped out and you have to start from nothing. Or you didn’t do it the way your cunt boss wanted you to so it’s back to the beginning, staying at the office til 9 every night until it’s done. So as much as it sucks to see the rocket blow up into a billion pieces, kind of makes you feel better about your fuck ups knowing even those NASA nerds can make a mistake. And this isn’t the first time either. Not too long ago we tried to send something to Mars and the thing got lost in space because there were several teams working on it, and some were using the metric system and some were using the American system. Good ol’ fashioned billion dollar space mistakes.

PS: Gotta feel for the astronauts up there waiting for new food supplies. You know they’ve eaten all their favorite pouches of food so now they are down to the shit they hate. They’ve been giddy for weeks, knowing they are getting new flavors of ice cream. And then they find out the rocket just rained all over Florida and no new food is coming. So brutal.
