Bucs Get Chopped Down By Chiefs 27-24
The Bucs got behind early and seemed to treat Tyreek Hill like every other #1 Receiver in the league, which was a mistake. Tyreek Hill's speed is really something to behold and it seems they didn't properly account for that. He got behind the defense often and had 203 yards and 2 TDs in the first half. He finished the game with 13 catches for 269 yards and 3 TDs.
The Bucs defense eventually got right, or as right as you can against the Chiefs. They even made them go three & out a few times only giving up 7 points in the second half. But the real issue seemed to be their offense, which is surprising on the surface given all their playmakers at the skill positions. Tony Romo was on the call with Jim Nantz and pointed out several times how with a deep passing game like the Bucs run, they don't run nearly enough pre-snap motion to identify coverage like Brady did in New England. He also pointed out how Brady doesn't seem to be on the same page with his Receivers and it's clear on hot routes where Brady thinks they'll be in one spot and the Receiver is in a different spot.
As far as the rest of the game, none of it was super enjoyable. Dave was grilling me at every opportunity, but I did have two good laughs. After a JPP sack, the Bucs picked off Mahomes on a 3rd down, but my guy JPP got flagged for roughing the passer allowing the down to continue. Dave then not only hey buddy'd me, but did the JPP tweet. Impossible not to laugh at that.
Then the Bucs scored a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to cover the +3.5 spread and Mike Evans threw the ball to a fan in the crowd. This was just laugh out loud funny:
We are headed into a very late bye week, so hopefully some of these things get fixed. Our schedule down the stretch is very manageable (BYE, vs. MIN, @ ATL, @ DET, vs. ATL). Best case scenario is we fix the issues and get hot down the stretch, but double digit wins is very attainable. If we can get the #5 seed and play on the road at the winner of the NFC East, we'll have a lot of momentum going into the playoffs. Tom Brady is also playing his best ball on the road. Don't count us out yet.
