Holy Shit: A Day Before The Season Gonzaga Just Shockingly Added Another 5-Star, Making Them The Clear Cut Best Team In The Country
And just like that, 24 hours before the season starts, Gonzaga becomes even more loaded. This is surprising to say the least as there wasn't even a rumor that Gonzaga was trying to get Andrew Nembhard eligible this year. Everyone just working under the assumption he was redshirting and playing next year. It makes sense to try and get him eligible because why not? The NCAA is approving pretty much everyone this year that transfers unless you have a learning disability and transfer to improve that. Looking at what the NCAA did to Xavier's Ben Stanley there.
But back to Gonzaga. They were already the preseason No. 1 team in the country in the same tier as Villanova and Baylor. That's no longer the case. They are in tier 1 by themselves right now by adding former 5-star and Florida transfer Andrew Nembhard. You're talking about a guy who started two years at Florida and was good. I still stand by that he was held back last year by Mike White trying to slow Florida down instead of playing to their biggest advantage. Now he gets to play in the backcourt with 5-star Jalen Suggs and Joel Ayayi and Corey Kispert on the wing. Shit, Gonzaga can run both Nembhard and Suggs in the backcourt together and go small moving Kispert to the four and Timme at the five. That's an absolutely loaded starting five. Not to mention you're bringing guys like Oumar Ballo, Anton Watson and Aaron Cook off the bench.
I grabbed Gonzaga last month at 9/1 on the Barstool Sportsbook and you can still get them at 8/1. Jump all over that. You're not going to get much better odds than them, especially if they beat Kansas on Thanksgiving Day and have a solid nonconference. I don't want to hear that they play in the WCC or never won a title. They were a Nigel Williams-Goss ankle injury and terrible officiating away from beating UNC. They had a chance to win that game still despite all that.
I'm also not worried about any sort of chemistry being ruined here. Nembhard was practicing with Gonzaga and you're putting him and Suggs in there together. Yeah, I know he played the most minutes at Florida and was second in shots there but that's what he was asked to do. Life will be different this year at Gonzaga, which is going to be a monster on the offensive side of the ball.
Less than 24 hours to go and we're still getting news like this. Buckle up.
