Chronicle – Police have identified a man and woman found dead Sunday in a murder-suicide at a Pearland home while their child was in in the house. The bodies were found about 4:45 p.m. inside the house in the 11500 block of Island Breeze, according to the Pearland Police Department. Police said officers were sent to the home on an emergency call about a disturbance. When they arrived, they found the body of Darryl Hamilton, 50, near the front entry way. The body of Monica Jordan, 44, was found in another part of the home. Investigators said it appeared Hamilton had been shot more than once and Jordan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hamilton is a former Major League Baseball player.  As a player, Hamilton batted .291 with 1,333 hits, 707 runs scored and 454 RBI in his career. Known as a terrific defensive outfielder, Hamilton committed only 14 errors out of 2,770 defensive chances in his career for a .995 fielding percentage. Hamilton was part of four playoff teams, including the 2000 National League Champion New York Mets. Hamilton spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers (1988-1995) before joining the Texas Rangers (1996), San Francisco Giants (1997-1998), Colorado Rockies (1998-1999) and Mets (1999-2001). Police said the couple’s 13-month-old boy was also found unharmed in the home. The boy was turned over to the state’s Child Protective Services

Some AWFUL news today. Darryl Hamilton murdered by his girlfriend, who then killed herself. Leaving a 13 month old boy behind, alone in the home. Something straight out of a horror movie thriller. Mets fans will always remember Darryl’s days on the Mets on that 2000 team that made it to the World Series. He was one of those role player guys that will always stick in your brain. The kind of guy that makes those teams truly memorable. It wasnt just about the stars like Piazza. It was guys like Darryl Hamilton that made it really fun to watch.

But of course this is much bigger than baseball. Say a prayer or send good vibes or whatever it is that you might do personally, do it for their 13 month old son. Growing up the son of a mom and dad who died in a Murder/Suicide is an absolutely terrible fate. One that no child should have to endure.
