The Trailer For 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Reunion Has A WILD Ending

Before addressing the ending, I want to note that I am all about this. The Fresh Prince has a very special place in so many people's hearts, and seeing the gang get back together to talk about old times is right up my alley. Man, showing James Avery and Will talking...

R.I.P. Uncle Phil.

Anyway, let's get to the twist. Seeing new Aunt Viv, Daphne Maxwell Reid, during most of this trailer was very…ugh. But when the OG, Janet Hubert, showed up at the end, I was genuinely shocked. It was originally reported that she wouldn't show up when this reunion was announced, but that was later walked back in news this September. That said, I'm honestly surprised they got her involved. In case you're not familiar with her and Smith's history here are a few quotes following her departure.

This is what Smith said about Janet Hubert on Atlanta Radio in '93:

I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel Air Show because I know she is going to dog me in the press. She has basically gone from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing. She’s mad now but she’s been mad all along. She said once, I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ No matter what, to her I’m just the Antichrist.

This is what Hubert had to say about Smith in 2011:

"There will never be a reunion … as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith," Hubert said. She adds, "He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn't know the word."

Some pretty fucking harsh words. Hubert blamed Smith for getting her blackballed in the industry, as she struggled to find work after her departure from the show. There were some pretty harsh words and a VERY long grudge held on both sides. If we get to see that beef squashed on air, I'm even more excited to watch. Lets watch some Uncle Phil

This comes to HBO Max on November 19th.
