Josh Pastner Is Trying An 'Unheard Of' Strategy And Having Georgia Tech Practice Without Contact To Get Ready For The Season
I get that this is for coronavirus and all that, but it's also pretty unsafe to just throw these guys out there without contact. Yes, it's not football and it's not tackling. But basketball is still a contact sport. You're still taking hits as you go through the lane. You're still taking hits when you're boxing out and going for rebounds. It's not like teams in the early season or any part of the season are going to refuse to make contact with Georgia Tech. Just seems short-sighted to try and eliminate contact at practice, which won't completely eliminate the fear of getting shut down for 2 weeks.
Remember we saw Navy do the no tackling this season?
We're less than 3 weeks away from the start of the season. Josh Pastner needs a good year at Georgia Tech. I know there are extenuating circumstances, but I'd want my guys as ready as possible for the year. You can't have another year of missing the NCAA Tournament. You can't keep winning 17, 18 games a year. It's now year 5 for Pastner at GT and he's yet to make the NCAA Tournament. Hell last year was the first year Georgia Tech had a winning record in the ACC. He won 21 games his first year and that was his best record to date. It's just not good.
I'll be curious to see how long this practice lasts and if he goes all the way to the season with it how GT looks to start the year.
