We Don't Have To Do This Every Single Year. We Can Just Decide Not To. We Have That Power.

I know we talk about this every year. And every year some senator or what have you puts forth a bill attempting to end this madness but nothing ever comes from it. And so every year it just starts getting dark at 3:30 in the afternoon and we sit here like fucking idiots and do nothing about it. We act like we're completely helpless against time. It's outrageous. WE DECIDE THE TIME! We get that right? Why do we at like time is this all-powerful force that can't be changed no matter what? We willy nilly set our clocks forward and backwards every 6 months in the Fall and the Spring and don't think twice about it all because some old fuck from 300 years ago decided it was a good idea. Guess what? IT'S NO LONGER A GOOD IDEA.

And shit, if your dumb state wants to keep moving the clocks all around, by all means. But we shouldn't all have to do it. I swear in NYC with all these tall building, there are weeks that go by where we don't see the sun. Not joking or exaggerating, weeks without a visit from Ray Baker. It's the most depressing thing ever, but for some reason, we are still doing this daylight savings bit.

I used to think "seasonal depression" was a made up term made up by chicks to get sympathy or made up by psychiatrists to push Xany prescriptions...and then I moved to New York. The winter consists of darkness 17 hours a day, piles of black slushy snow on the sidewalks from November to March, and at some point the heat in your apartment building will shut off for no reason. The LEAST we can do is stop moving the clock to make it worse. It's the easiest fix humanly possible. There is zero downside.

Somehow Arizona figured it out. Sunshine, warm weather, everyone has a pool. I get NYC is different than Arizona, but maybe we should just try to emulate places where people are happier? That's not too crazy of a thought, now is it? "Do things people will like" would be a hell of a platform for a Governor or Congressman. But unfortunately that's too radical of an idea.

So hold onto the last few days of light as long as you can. Go for a walk. Take a few pictures. Because the sun won't be putting his hat on again until March 2021. And we just allow this to happen, every single year. For shame.
