Brett Phillips And The Rays Walk Off The Dodgers In One Of The Craziest Endings To a World Series Game Ever

HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT A BASEBALL GAME

Seriously, WHAT JUST HAPPENED? How is the World Series tied up? This series had been pretty blah in terms of the fire works in each game, but tonight changed all of that. Game 4 was a classic before the bottom of the 9th even happened, then absolute chaos followed. One of the best baseball games I've ever watched (recency bias certainly in play), but I feel like that's a moment we'll remember forever, especially if Tampa pulls this shit off. The back and forth swings were incredible and just when you thought the clock had struck midnight on the Rays, Brett Phillips in his first ever World Series at bat (WHAT!?!??!?!) ripped a game winning base hit to even this bad boy up. I am in disbelief at what I just watched. That was one of the craziest walk offs in the playoffs that I can remember.

Two strikes while beating the shift, what a piece of hitting by Phillips. Arozarena ran like his life was on the line from first with never a millisecond of a thought that he was stopping...until of course he FELL! This dude tripped rounding third with his legs churning 4000 mph and still managed to touch home plate safely.

Chris Taylor kicking the ball around in the outfield on the anniversary of the infamous Bill Buckner game while Will Smith proceeded to lose the ball on the throw home. Kenley Jansen just refusing to cover home. All of it fucking crazy, man. Arozarena was dead to rights, but that's sometimes the gift of aggressive base running. Pressure the defense into making a good play. Arozarena tripped rounding third and somehow scored, but him hustling his balls off forced the chaos. This game should be in extra innings right now, but this team of destiny has somehow evened up the series. Holy moly I'm still catching my breath. Are the Dodgers cursed? Whatever it is, we've got ourselves a fucking World Series. Dave Roberts' reaction said it all.

If you want some more highlights from the game I just updated the blog with everything that made this game insane.

We had Corey Seager blasting his MLB record tying 8th homer of the postseason

We had Randy Arozarena promptly break said MLB record with his 9th homer of the postseason.

With the Dodgers in control in the 2nd half of the game, Brandon Lowe blasted his 3rd homer of the World Series to take the lead. Madness. The first "oh shit" moment of this game. The Rays were not going away.

Then the next half inning Lowe had a chance to make an incredible grab with the shift on, but mistimed his dive. Joc Pederson had regained the lead for LA and that kinda felt like it. Not even close.

The next half inning Kevin Kiermaier immediately tied it up with this no doubter to right. These motherfuckers just wouldn't go away.

I said one of the x factors for the World Series was Dave Roberts making any kind of decision. Leaving Baez in after giving up the 3 run homer to Lowe was one of those decisions. Just read his this tweet and that should tell you all you need to know about this dude managing a baseball team.

The Rays secret weapon: Dave Roberts' decision making.

Corey Seager then untied this game in the next half inning with a bloop single into shallow left. Okay that was it right?

And then Brett Phillips happened. His first postseason hit of his career. You'll have to look really hard to find a better baseball game than that. Watch that shit and tell me this sport is boring and dying and I will simply call you a liar. We have ourselves a tied up World Series with Kershaw and Glasnow going tomorrow night. Buckle. Up.
