The Early 90's Penguins Were So Good They Vetoed Scotty Bowman From Coming To Practice

Scotty Bowman is probably the most iconic hockey coach of all time. The guy has like 9 Stanley Cup rings and is the winningest coach of all time. So it's pretty safe to assume that every team he has coached, he owned the room. That is, unless Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr are the team. I don't think anyone commands more respect than Le Magnifique to be honest. We have heard countless stories on Spittin' Chiclets of this guy shutting down practices, paying for all the guys, just running the coaches show. I mean at one point he owned the team he was playing on. That is straight up Jackie Moon shit.

Time to bag skate? Nope, Mario has dinner plans in the city, practice is over. In the nicest way possible, too. I don't think there has ever been a bad word spoken about Mario. The guy is a god damn sweetheart.

But this story Kevin Stevens told on Spittin' Chiclets this week about Mario Lemieux and the boys vetoing Scotty Bowman out of the locker room one season may take the cake for the most legendary Mario/90's Penguins story of all time. Stevens didn't specifically mention Super Mario when telling the story, but you gotta imagine he was behind it.
