Blackmail Should Be Legal

NYTIMES – Nicolás Leoz resignation came after he was accused of taking kickbacks from a former FIFA marketing partner during the 1990s, and after an official for England’s 2018 World Cup bid said Leoz had demanded a knighthood in exchange for his vote.

First of all huge props to the dude who demanded knighthood to get his vote for the World Cup.  That’s the shit I’m talking about.  Knight me bitch.  But that’s neither here nor there.  The fact this FIFA thing is headline news is so mystifying to me.  I mean are we really talking about Blackmail?   We talking about blackmail right now?   For real?  Listen let’s forget the fact everybody already knew this is how World Cup bids worked already.   Pay to play.  Duh.   Nevermind that.  Blackmail should be legal.  Bribes should be legal.  We’re not talking about public officials.  FIFA is a private company.  If somebody wants to grease the wheels for a world cup bid so be it.  That’s the briber’s choice.   Bribary should always be legal for private companies.  (Sex not included)  Like I can’t bribe Dana to sleep with me.  I can offer to pay her and if she says no that’s her prerogative but I can’t bribe her.    But contracts with other companies?  Of course you can bribe people.   There is no guarantee the bribe works. Just because you make Nicolas Keoz a knight doesn’t mean England gets the World Cup.  It just buys you an advocate. Seriously what’s the difference between paying a lobbyist in Washington and bribes?  Nothing.   If somebody wants to bribe any of my employees at Barstool Sports to get us to blog shit I have no problem with it.  Doesn’t mean we’ll blog it but you got a better chance than without a bribe.  As long as there are two willing non associated parties I don’t see what the problem is.
