TIL Chicago Is The Only Place With Hot Dog Stands Inside Their Home Depot's. And They Have Fuego Dogs.

(*for the people that aren't down with the cool reddit lingo, TIL = Today I Learned)

Before you judge me, hear me out.

Couple days ago my main man Clem posted a great blog heralding the delicious, yet thrifty, Costco Hot Dog.

As I'm prone to do, I dropped a comment in the comment section. (I spent 20 years lurking in there, just because I'm on the other side of the tracks now doesn't mean I'm gonna pretend I'm too good for it now).

Well, I got ran off the fuckin court.

For some reason, I just assumed a hot dog stand by the checkout/exit was just a staple in every Home Depot.

Foolish me.

I had zero clue.

I'm a big Home Depot guy. Like Frank The Tank, it's probably my favorite shopping experience.

If I'm in the general vicinity of one (a couple miles) I'll find a reason to wander into it and find something I don't need to buy, but can convince myself I do.

And the cherry on top of the visit was always grabbing a dog or two on the way back to the car at this delightful stand.

I know it looks pretty unassuming, but this baby is located at our city Home Depot stores, almost cookie-cutter versions of each other. And their dogs are fire.

It's been killing me that since March, every time I've visited, they've been closed down to this city's draconian Covid restrictions. There it is, like an oasis in an urban hardware desert, blocked off by an orange slinky fence. With a "Sorry We're Now Closed" sign displayed in the window…

No, I'm not crazy.

- DO312 Chicago

Just a classic Chicago move putting food stands in Home Depots. And a brilliant business decision. Nivia runs a tight ship. Cash only. Quality product. Great customer funnel. And location location location.

If you know you know. If you don't, you're missing out.

p.s. - Is allowing Home Depot's to remain open completely normal while forbidding the hot dog stands inside of them from being open because they are "indoor dining" not the most Chicago politics thing ever? Fuckin joke.
