8 innings. 11 K. 0 BB. 1 H. And it came in the first inning. After that, Jacob deGrom with the Peppermint Patty flow retired 23 straight batters, Familia finished off the final 3, and the Mets earn a split with a 2 hitter against the Cardinals. 2 base runners all day.

Weird, weird series. The 14 inning game with Harvey earning a dominant no decision, 2 disgusting deplorable blowouts in the middle, and a masterful outing by deGrom to finish. A lot to be happy about in this 4 game set and a lot to be  upset about. Lot of good stuff, and a lot of red flags. At the end of the day splitting against one of the best teams in baseball is perfectly acceptable. 2 of 4 from the Cardinals is fine by me. Now, that being said, the box score of this series will say otherwise, and make you worry a little more. 2 of 4 in a well played, well rounded series is a lot different than what went down. Those middle games will make about the offense and Bartolo’s magic wearing off. But at face value, I’ll take it.

This team is exactly what we expected it to be. 40 games in – phenomenal pitching and a shitty offense. When they play good defense and get a couple timely hits, they are a contender. If their pitching or defense falters is almost an automatic loss because this lineup is absolutely abysmal. Long story short NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE A MOVE. Matz and whatever other prospects you want not named Syndergaard and go get Tulo. Do it. Make it happen. Stop wasting these arms. Stop wasting their outings. The window for this pitching staff is now and the foreseeable future is open. Capitalize.
