Source - A virtual table read of scenes from Cameron Crowe’s 1982’s high school-set comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High brought together an impressive collection of talent on Thursday, including Shia LaBeouf (seen here doing some Spicoli method acting), Morgan Freeman, Henry Golding, John Legend, Matthew McConaughey, and Julia Roberts. Also in Zoom attendance: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, “appearing on screen together for the first time since their 2005 divorce,” according to People. They were cast as Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates) and Brad Hamilton (Judge Reinhold), meaning the got to reenact the scene every 14-year-old boy remembers from Fast Times.
Ah, the legendary pool scene. Back when Mr. Skin was dominating the early days of PG-13 internet smut, he chose this as his No. 1 all time nude scene. While I did hear him on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast not long ago, I can't confirm if it still occupies the top spot. Maybe it's been replaced, but I can't imagine by what or whom. Alexandria Daddario in "True Detective" perhaps? All I know is that I'm the same age as Phoebe Cates so this moment is forever imprinted on my soul and will never be replaced.
Just so we know what I'm talking about - in case this iconic cultural touchstone somehow missed you, in which case I have nothing but pity for your sad, hollow existence, here it the SFW edited edition (cued up to the 0:23 mark):
Directed by Amy Heckerling. Music by The Cars. Everything else by Ms. Cates. Just a cinematic tour de force that was guaranteed to end up as a grainy, scratched-up section of VHS tape from whatever local store you rented it from due to it being watched, rewound, and watched again. The scene that launched a hundred million puberties.
I thought no other treatment could do it justice. And I still believe that. But if you're going to try, you might as well not even attempt to reenact it visually. It would unfair to any other actress to expect her to walk in Phoebe's mighty, wet footprints. So the only thing you can do is turn it into an old time radio production. Theater of the mind. Described by the greatest narrator in the history of cinema. With an all star lineup. And America's one time "It" couple as the Linda and Brad characters. Come to see Brennifer together again. Stay to hear Morgan Freeman vividly describe Phoebe Cates' breasts and nipples and Judge Reinhold jacking off while Matthew McConaughey grins ear to ear and everyone else cringes. Legendary stuff.
P.S. I'm afraind movies will never be this much fun again.
