"A Cat" Being The Animal That Carmelo Anthony Is Most Afraid Of Makes Perfect Sense

Business as usual.

This came out a few days ago, but I forgot to blog it after the disaster that was the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery.  Carmelo went on Facebook to answer 60 seconds worth of questions from his fans.  First of all, let me say this.  Being afraid of cats is a perfectly acceptable response.  They are soulless little creatures from the moment they go from kitten to cat.  They will attack you whenever your defenses are down and that evil hiss they do is, well, pure evil.  The Cats Vs. Dogs argument is the dumbest debate in the history of debates.

That being said, answering “A cat” as the animal that scares you the MOST is just so Melo it hurts.  MJ would have probably said “I fear no animal, I only fear failure”.  Kobe then would have copied that quote 10 years later, while LeBron would have deflected by saying he is a lion, king of the jungle or something.  Meanwhile, the Knicks‘ franchise player answers “A cat”.  Perfect.  Three other thoughts:

1. I appreciate the diplomatic answer from Melo when he was asked “Nas or Jay-Z”?  You have to share a city with those two guys, so I understand being on the fence.  But that was still a cowardly response.  The answer is Jay-Z every. single. time.  “Illmatic” came out in 1994.  That is now a “one hot album every 21 year average”.  And that’s so laaaame.

2. Will Smith playing Carmelo Anthony in a movie is the PERFECT answer.  Both started out on top of the world early in their careers (Fresh Prince/Syracuse National Championship).  Both showed signs of being long-time superstars as they moved to the next stages of their career (MIB, Independence Day, Big Willie Style/Melo never missing the NBA Playoffs on some bum ass Nuggets teams).  And both of them have become disappointments for what their talent says they should be (most of the movies in Will Smith’s IMDB the last 10 years/Most of Carmelo’s New York years).  And I guess you can say that Jaden Smith is like Carmelo’s hat collection. Both are weird and hated by almost everybody on the planet.  So Melo nailed that answer.

3. Now & Laters over any candy, let alone Jolly Ranchers is just a flat out embarrassment.  If I’m Phil Jackson, I start shopping Melo immediately, because that answer is red flag city.
